The German solar industry is seeking to reestablish itself after a wave of bankruptcies a decade ago. Overproduction in China and government subsidies in the United States have made it difficult for German solar businesses to remain profitable. However, a solar cell plant opened by Swiss group Meyer Burger in Bitterfeld-Wolfen is a sign of a possible revival. The factory, located in what was once known as "Solar Valley," produces a million cells per day.
